Kizzy: Exploring organic pet remains and their application in sustainable art.

“Kizzy” is a collection of art made with the organic remains of our beloved golden retriever, Kizzy. Her impact on our lives was so powerful that when she passed we began discussing ways we could honor, or even immortalize, our dear friend. The obvious solution was that we would literally turn Kizzy in to art. The organic materials that she left behind, the same materials that once made us laugh and hated thunder, can now be re-purposed as the building blocks of something beautiful and serve as a new benchmark for sustainability in art.

It might sound morbid but that’s not our intention or a feeling the work will convey. Instead, the focus is on celebrating Kizzy’s life, the transformation of materials and functional practicality in art and design. For instance, the skull is a reminder of the times we spent together that we can cherish forever, but it’s also a solar powered media projector, a statue of color explosions and love, and an extreme example of sustainability’s potential.

We’ll be taking the project to kickstarter.com in hopes of raising the funds needed to secure a venue that will bring Kizzy to the public for a weekend of art and love. Below you’ll find bits of the process during Kizzy’s re-creation.
